Discussions and Activities

We’re excited to be offering a collection of fantastic discussions and activities throughout the convention weekend this year related to a variety of fandom interests. Whether you write fanfiction, call yourself a Trekker, make Joss your master, create elaborate costumes or props, swoon over Edward and Bella or make geeky crafts, we work hard to ensure that we offer programming that everyone can enjoy.

ACTIVITIES

JOIN US FOR THE LAUNCH OF PRETTY IN GEEK!

We’re very pleased to be participating in the launch of new webseries Pretty In Geek. It’s your opportunity to see the first full episode before it’s officially online, followed by a question and answer session with the cast and crew. And, as an extra special bonus, you can also stick around to participate in a D&D game featuring the characters from the show!

For more information about Pretty In Geek, check out their website here.

WE WELCOME THE CREW OF CHASING ATLANTIS

We’ve got an extra special treat for fans of NASA and the space shuttle program. We’ve got an extended preview of the new documentary Chasing Atlantis, which follows the last launch ever of the space shuttle: Atlantis STM-135. The film takes you behind the history of the shuttle and introduces you to the people whom the space shuttle program has impacted and influenced.

Following the preview, there will be a discussion with the principal crew involved with making the film. It’s your chance to ask questions and find out how the film came together and what was involved in getting it off the ground. Who knows, there may even be an opportunity for you to be a part of the final film!

SIDEWALK ASTRONOMY

Join us as we gather on Friday and Saturday night to take a celestial tour. You?ll get to look through a telescope at Saturn, double stars and many other astronomical objects.

LEGO BUILDING CHALLENGE

The Lego Building Challenge is coming back to Polaris again this year! Every team is given a bucket of Lego bricks, with the exact same pieces in each. They will be told of the secret theme and given 20 minutes to build their best creation! When time is up, each team will have the opportunity to describe their creation to the judge(s), after which a winning team will be chosen. The winning team will be selected based upon the judge(s) discretion in reviewing the originality, creativity and ‘fun’ factor of each creation. All materials used during the contest will be collected afterwards.

THE GEEK-OFFS

Our famous Geek-Offs are back and better than ever, featuring a collection all-new categories sure to test your fandom knowledge like it’s never been tested before. This years Geek-Off categories are Star Trek, Sanctuary, Eureka and Warehouse 13, Whedonverse, Supernatural and Doctor Who, all leading up to the championship round in which we claim an ultimate winner! Are you up to the challenge?

TABLE-TOP GAMING THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND!

Tabletop gamers will find plenty to keep them busy all weekend long, including Dungeons and Dragons, Pandemic, Settlers Of Catan, Fluxx, Ticket To Ride, Carcassonne and more!
